You may be wondering what I mean by “is gaming worth it”, what I mean is, is it worth it to spend tons of money on games. For some people, it a definite yes while for others it is a solid no. Everyone has their own opinion but for the purpose of today, I’m going to try to convince you on why it is or isn’t. This is the question that I shall be answering for my 5th and final blog.
What It Does
Videogames are something that most people have spent money at some point in their life. Just to get a small powerup or something that doesn’t even affect the way you play. It seems dumb when you first think about it because you’re basically spending money on something that isn’t real, so why do people do it so much. Any game that you have spent a lot of time it is probably one you’d be willing to spend money in because of how much you play the game. You want to reward yourself by getting an exclusive item or skin or anything else. This is fine except when people get addicted to spending money on games.
Addiction
When people get addicted to spending money on games it can become a problem very fast. In the same way of gambling or binge drinking, gaming can consume all of your money and leave you broke and homeless. This may sound absurd but it is basically the same as gambling in some games that have loot crate systems. In which people can spend money to open said loot crates and try to get something they want, like trying to win money on a slot machine. If they don’t get what they want people to spend more to try and get it and more, and more, and you get the point. If you are addicted to spending money on games you should seek help to get over the addiction.
Other factors
Some other factors that are worth considering are that you may actually have to spend up to $80 to actually buy the game in the first place. So spending more money on top of that might not be the best idea. Or the fact that some games are free which inclined you to spend more money because you didn’t pay anything for the game itself. Some other factors include how you have to also actually buy a console/P.C, a T.V that can run the games well enough. On top of buying anything else extra like a controller/keyboard, headset, microphone (if you want a separate one), and a chair or something else to sit on. So other factors can really add up and come back to bite you in the long run.
